Nutritional information
The pumpkinseeds which are grown in Styria are a unique variety, Cucurbita pepo convar. Citrullina var. styriaca. They grow without a husk, are dark green in color and are of great physiological and nutritional value.

They are a rich source of protein (35 %) and physiologically nutritive fat (50 % pumpkin seed oil). The also contain carbohydrates, amino acids, phytosterol, vitamins (A, B1, B2, B6, D and E) and trace elements. Moreover, the seeds are a source of minerals like calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc and selenium.

The fat in pumpkinseeds is considered to be one of the most valuable and healthful vegetable fats. Approximately 80 % of the fatty acids are unsaturated, of which 50 -60 % are polyunsaturated. The high concentration of essential polyunsaturated fatty acids is an important supplement to a healthy diet.

Pumpkinseeds are used therapeutically in non conventional medicine to strengthen the bladder and for the prevention of prostate complaints. Even scientific research confirms the beneficial influence of the seeds. It is probably the particular composition of all the nutrients that brings about the positive effects.
